Southampton Town Council Member

DEMOCRATIC

Bouvier, 64, is running on the Democratic and Independence party lines. Bouvier is seeking his second four-year term. Bouvier also currently sits on the Peconic Estuary Program Management Committee and the Suffolk County Superstorm Sandy Review Task Force.

• Bouvier said water quality issues are important and during his term, the town established a rebate program that enabled residents to replace outdated septic systems with new Innovative and Alternative (I/A) septic systems.
• Bouvier said he is also sponsoring legislation for community choice aggregation, an energy plan that would offer residents lower costs per kilowatt-hour and the ability to choose their sources of electricity.
• Bouvier said he wants to focus on water quality and energy issues if re-elected, as well as focusing on infrastructure projects such as replacing aging cesspools across town.

DEMOCRATIC

Catalanotto, 50, is running on the Democratic line. Catalanotto is a member of Southampton’s Community Preservation Fund Advisory Board and the Speonk-Remsenburg Civic Association.

• Catalanotto said he wants to expand new business industries in Southampton by looking into possible business incentives for them and reducing or eliminating application fees for such businesses.
• On water quality issues, Catalanotto said he wanted to “make sure we’re doing everything possible to protect our ground and surface waters.”
• Catalanotto said he wants to look into ways to find affordable-housing models, which he said would be key to retaining more people in Southampton.

REPUBLICAN

Richard Martel, of Hampton Bays, is running on the Republican, Conservative, Working Families and Libertarian party lines. Martel describes himself as a local business owner who served as a Hampton Bays Chamber of Commerce board member, according to his campaign page on Facebook.

CONSERVATIVE

McArdle, 56, is running on the Conservative, Republican and Working Families party lines. McArdle is a retired Southampton Town police detective. He was previously the Southampton Police Benevolent Association president for three consecutive terms.

• Overcrowded housing and code enforcement issues are concerning to McArdle, who said he wants to focus on stronger enforcement to bring property owners who violate the code into compliance.
• McArdle said water quality was also an issue that he wanted to focus on, particularly making sure that septic systems around Southampton are upgraded.
• McArdle said he also wanted to explore more options such as solar energy and geothermal heating and air conditioning as a way to help improve both water quality and climate control.

Not registered with a party

Pell, 24, of Southampton, is running on the Independence Party line. A graduate of SUNY Maritime College, Pell said she works as an associate real estate manager at a Class A building in Manhattan.

• Pell said she wants to bring a “young voice” to Southampton issues.
• Pell said she wants to look into finding more housing options in Southampton.
• Pell said she wants to help protect the town’s waterways. Pell said she wanted to promote more cost-effective ways for people to replace their aging septic systems with new systems to reduce nitrogen pollution in local waterways.
